29 million GTA V sold

October 30, 2013

GTA V has broken all records and shattered all expectations. It is the most financially successful entertainment product and it’ll be very, very interesting to see what kind of product it will take to dethrone these achievements.

I myself cannot believe these sale numbers. They are out of this world. Rockstar must be laughing all the way to the bank as they have the next five GTA productions costs covered already thanks to GTA V. Plus some nice bonuses to their personal wallets, of course. And Christmas isn’t even here yet. And the PC version isn’t out yet. Will they break 35 million? I think so.

Congratulations to Rockstar as this success is well deserved for not going with the safe and easy route and making another GTA in Liberty City. The amount of polish and detail in GTA V is unrivaled and they have earned all their records. Once again, congratulations.

Money’s raining all over GTA V.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction

October 29, 2013

The new Extinction mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts has finally been revealed and I must admit, it is looking like something that I’d like.

Too bad I won’t support Call of Duty again until they deliver a new engine with impressive graphics like Battlefield did two years ago.

First results between PS4 vs. Xbox One are in

October 29, 2013

Digital Foundry has made a world class article where they compare the quality of Battlefield 4 between PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. I strongly recommend you go and read this behemoth of an article as it’s the most qualitative I’ve seen. It gives you a very fair and objective analysis of each version and there’s no surprise which ones are the best ones.

PS4 takes the lead from X1 quite substantially.  Battlefield 4 runs at 900p on the PS4 and 720p on the X1. This was to be expected as X1 has weaker hardware and more complicated ESRAM to work with. Sad facts if you will be gaming primarily on an X1 next generation for sure.

Though the X1 version by no means looks horrible or bad, it falls short and is inferior to the PS4 one by quite some mileage. It is expected to be like this for at least the first two years of the console cycle, perhaps even always as the PS4 simply has more hardware to work with. And when Sony’s first-party exclusive start coming out, well then there will be no doubts as to where the most stunning games are.

Add on top of this the rumors that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be running at 720p on the Xbox One and Titanfall also, well, then it’s certainly not looking good for Microsoft.  There are also other rumors circulating that the Xbox One has strong issues with party drops and server allocations as they are separated now instead of unified as with Xbox 360. It is said to be “months away” before that will be resolved.

Judging by these comparisons, rumors, facts and pre-order numbers, the Xbox team at Microsoft must be in chaos and despair. I predict the PS4 out-selling the X1 by at least 20 million units this war because of this. And that’s me being generous I feel.

The PS4 has a bright future ahead with a superb start in both hardware, software and reputation.

PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One

October 26, 2013

I am going to objectively analyze both platforms strengths to show you which console is the best at a particular thing to help you decide which one to pick. I myself am not entirely decided yet, despite my blogging about it twice or so, I still reserve my mind to a last-minute change.

Best hardware: PlayStation 4
What does this mean: This means that PS4 will deliver better-looking games than Xbox One. It might also mean it’ll deliver more stable games. This will mostly only been seen in exclusive Sony games because third-party developers will aim to make the games as equal as possible, going by the lowest derivation, which is the Xbox One. However, rumors point that due to X1′s complicated ESRAM it might affect third-party games already during the first two years. Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 are both rumored to look and run better on the PS4.

Best online service: Xbox One
What does this mean:  Online on Xbox One is likely to be superior due to several reasons. Xbox One has 300,000 servers whilst PS4 has roughly 70,000. Microsoft have been the undisputed kings of online console play for a decade and will expand with that experience. Smart matchmaking, lower latency and revamped features such as deliver two-three times better audio quality thanks to the Skype codec when talking and playing online. If online gaming is your priority, there is no denying that the best online experience will be found on Xbox One in terms of raw performance.

Best multimedia features: Xbox One
What does this mean:  If you are looking for more than just gaming, and who could blame you, it’s 2013,  then Xbox One will be the better choice by miles. Skype, UFC, NFL, NHL, Xbox Live Video & TV Show marketplace, HBO GO, SkySports, TV-integration, and exclusive TV series produced for Xbox One by big producers such as Steven Spielberg.  Xbox One is your choice if you are looking for that all-around experience with gaming and entertainment. Important notice in this area is that a lot of features such as TV integration is for United States only and some other features vary depending on country, but there’s no denying that the U.S accounts gets the superior Xbox Live experience.

Best social community: PlayStation 4
What does this mean:  If social interactions and experiences are the most important factor in your choice, then PS4 is the way to go. It will undoubtedly be the best-selling console with most social features with heavy Facebook integration and focus on sharing videos and screens. It’ll pop up in all your friends feed both on PSN and Facebook. YouTube links are also said to be there. PS4 is out-selling the X1 by miles and it’s likely that 90% of your friends are picking the PS4 instead. It’s also the cheaper console which will assure the best third-party support in the long run as it’ll be the dominant platform. If you have fears of being alone, then do not pick the Xbox One. PS4 will guarantee a living and social environment with real-name support.

Best games: PS4 & Xbox One
What does this mean: Both consoles offer great exclusives. Xbox One has Halo and PS4 has The Order 1886. These games are entirely up to personal preferences and depending on what kind of genres you prefer. If you prefer shooters, then Xbox One is likely more suitable to you because of the controller and their heavy focus on exclusive shooter games. For an overall experience and more dramatic and cinematic experiences, PS4 will be the choice for you as it’s also more powerful.  Like I said earlier,  some third-party titles will be running better on the PS4 as well.

There you have it folks. An objective analysis. To sum it all up:

Buy PlayStation 4: if you want the most powerful gaming console and focus mainly on gaming. Social features such as sharing, streaming and community focus are also keys here. It’ll be the best-seller with superior third-party support as well. It’s also the most affordable console.  It does have media features such as Amazon Video and Netflix, but not as broad and established app-support as the X1. If you want the best-looking games with a broad line of exclusive genres and cinematic experiences, then PS4 is for you, the ultimate gaming machine.

Buy Xbox One: if you want an all-in-one device that delivers greater shooter games, superior online features, great multimedia features such as Xbox Live Video and TV Shows marketplace, HBO Go, sports such as UFC, NFL, NBA and NHL. If you are looking for a console with new innovative features with Kinect voice controls. It’s the most expensive console and less powerful, but it’ll offer more overall entertainment with movies, sports and shows. Skype in 1080p with your friends while watching your favorite show or playing your favorite game. Xbox One is the ultimate all-in-one entertainment machine.

I didn’t discuss the controllers because I haven’t tried them yet. Next week I’ll post my hands-on impressions with the new controllers.

Titanfall: Collector’s Edition

October 22, 2013

EA and Respawn Entertainment have finally announced a release date for Titanfall. March 13, 2014 is when this insanely promising game is coming out. My most anticipated shooter ever.  I cannot wait.

Also, a $249.99 Collector’s Edition bundle has been announced. It comes with juicy content such as an 18″ Titan and 190 pages art book.

I will buy this insanely overpriced edition because I believe this game will give me roughly 1000 hours of fun.

More information is available on the official website.

I’ll be spending $249.99 on this beauty.

No more FIFA

October 22, 2013

I bought FIFA 14 because I haven’t bought a FIFA game since FIFA 11.  That’s three years, figured I’d give it a shot because it was really cheap, only $30 at the time.

Boy,  am I disappointed. The balance is horrible. The defenders are insanely overpowered. The strikers are still way too defensive and the same problems that have been there forever are still present.

The head game in FIFA 14 was a joke – so they patched it two weeks after launch. But that doesn’t solve all problems. It’s still a very, very poor product.

Therefore, there will be no more FIFA for me for a long time. At earliest I’ll pick up FIFA 16, but then I expect a dramatic improve in AI and gameplay and not a cheap shovel ware like FIFA 14 was. I’ll see you in two years EA, hopefully you’ve actually done something new by then.

No more FIFA for at least two years. I want dramatic improvement.

What Nintendo must do to get me to buy a Wii U

October 22, 2013

I often get asked as to why I hate Nintendo so much and whatnot, and that’s a fair question. I come out as rather anti-Nintendo, and sure, I get that. But in all honesty – I am gamer. I love products that push boundaries and innovate. Nintendo, are unfortunately, stuck in the 90:s. But should they change around a few things and release some really, really solid software I might pick up a Wii U in like 3-4 years.

Why do I say 3-4 years? Because I am about to list my requirements for me to buy a Wii U and they are not likely to be matched until at least 3-4 years. What are they? Glad you asked.

Wii U console for $199.
The Wii U hardware is already six years old. It’s ridiculously overpriced due to the tablet controller. I won’t pay a single dime over $199 for this console and when I do pay $199 for it, I want it to come bundled with at least one amazing game as well. And for it to be some sort of special edition like they did with the Wind Waker bundle.

Wii U controller for $79.99
The fact that you can’t buy additional controllers one-year after release is pathetic. And the fact that they cost over $200 is even more sad. Drop that price by miles and release the product.

Wave Race Wii U
This needs to be a fully new game with 1080p graphics in all its glory. It needs to have 8-12 people online multiplayer with leaderboards, rankings, free roaming, split-screen racing for 4 players, fantastic tropical race tracks, but also some innovative and new ones, perhaps winter themed? It also needs to be getting additional levels and content through at least one DLC package for $9.99 with like 3 new maps and a new mode. This is by far the most important piece of software Nintendo can put out in order for me to be excited.

Zelda HD
A really mind-blowing Zelda HD game with some form of online features whether it’d be leaderboards, races, sharing items, something. It needs connectivity. And fucking gorgeous design choices. Like I need to sit there and say  Very nice, this is a must have. Something like that. Not just “Meh, it’s Zelda in HD with the same shit over and over again.”

Super Smash Bros. Wii U
I know this one’s already announced and a trailer has been shown. But this needs to be pitch perfect. I mean, the online needs to have leaderboards, rankings, divisions, proper replay features, bonus content with DLC in the future in form of characters and levels, it needs to be fast, polished, and insanely addictive. Simply put it needs to be the best goddamn online game Nintendo has ever done with amazing esport potential.  Cross-play between 3DS and Wii U would be slick. That would make it impressive.

Mario Kart 8
This game has also been announced and shown. For Spring 2014, so it’s not that far off. But I must say I am not that impressed. Maybe in 3-4 years we’ll get Mario Kart 9, but I expect some very deep online features, addictive social gameplay for 4 local players, replay features, perhaps a level creator?  It needs to be the deepest, longest and most content filled Mario Kart by miles.

If Nintendo manages to achieve all my requirements, I suppose you could see a Wii U next to my PS4 in like 2016-17.
