Pain and Gain

August 31, 2013

If you like fitness and believe in the American dream, then look no further than to Pain and Gain. This movie has both of those aspects and tons of humor on top of it. Pain and Gain was excellent in my opinion.

Based on a true story and set in Florida we get to follow a bodybuilder and his crew as they follow the American dream on the wrong side of the law. Mark Wahlberg is masterful as always and really buffed up insanely nicely for this part and I can’t do anything but to bow down to him and salute. He’s one heck of a guy I’ll tell you that.

Humor. Realism. True story. Fitness. Strippers. Success, right? Indeed.

Their American dream is bigger than yours.

The Vampire Diaries

April 17, 2013

One of my “new” favorite television shows now is without a doubt, The Vampire Diaries. I just finished the first season and I can’t get enough.

I recently begun my marathons of series as I they have begun to pile up and I don’t really want to have that much to watch during summer, and VD was on top of my list and I am happy it was. I mean, how hot isn’t Damon, am I right? Also Caroline isn’t too shabby either. 😉

Vampires are hot, dangerous and very in right now so I wanted to join the phenomenon and next up for me is True Blood and then back to VD again. I need to at least have seen one season of each show to determine which one I want to see through first. But there are just too many shows in my queue. How will I have a life with so much greatness coming out of Hollywood?

Vampire sex is always hot. And bloody. 😉

March 11, 2013

I finally managed to see the much talked about movie Lincoln in which one of my favorite actors, Day-Lewis managed to win an oscar for. Was it any good?

The answer is yes, it was good. However, it might not be what many expect. It’s what some people would like to call an “artsy” movie with only story and progression without any action or exciting scenes. In that regard, it has a very limited audience that will appreciate it.

As always, I will not spoil a single thing. It’s about Abraham Lincoln and Day-Lewis plays his role exceptionally well. I mean, he won an oscar for it, so I guess I’m not alone in thinking that. In the movie are also some other stars that impressed me such as James Spader and Tommy Lee Jones. Plus more that minor parts such as Gordon-Levitt. Very nice to see.

The focus of the movie was when Lincoln was re-elected and wanted to abolish slavery and end the civil war, which to me was very interesting things, so I enjoyed the movie as it was very well-written and directed. And acted. Yes, a very solid picture, but like I said earlier, it has a limited audience that will appreciate it. Especially in these days where there’s an explosion scene in every movie.

Great motion picture.

Resident Evil: Retribution

December 15, 2012

Yet another Resident Evil movie has popped out and since I’ve seen all the previous ones, it’d be weird not to see this one. So I did. And you know what? I liked it. That’s right.

I know almost all my friends didn’t like any of the last three movies. Which I don’t get. They are implementing more and more characters from the RE series in the latter movies and the same goes for the zombies and events. Other than that, it has almost no relation to the RE games. And that’s given. That I learned from the very first movie. But that’s not why I watch ’em. I watch these flicks because of the nice action that they deliver and they did deliver well in this one as well.

Retribution continues series and does so well I’d say. Plenty of cool slow-mo action scenes with some x-ray moments here and there. A tad old perhaps, but it works. I am an action lover and this movie delivered on the action part. Since I didn’t come to see a co-story with the games I didn’t leave disappointed at all. The Blu-ray quality was nice as well and so were the effects, so I can’t complain really.

I guess these movies are one of those classic “hate or love” situations and if you didn’t like any of the previous ones – you won’t like this one either.

A lot of skin in Retribution.

Friends Blu-ray

November 21, 2012

Finally! I have in my possession the entire collection of the TV show Friends on Blu-ray disc so that I can enjoy it in glorious HD.

I’ve waited this for quite some time as I am in desperate need of a new “background TV show”, you know, a show that’s on in the background while doing things and when there’s nothing else to do. Seinfeld has long filled that slot with its great seasons but it has come to a point where every episode has been seen more than three times and I just can’t stand it anymore.

Can’t wait to enjoy it in HD for the first time ever.

The Vampire Diaries

October 21, 2012

So I just finished the first two episodes of The Vampire Diaries and I am loving it so far. I understand why it has become such a phenomenon. I have several shows to “catch up” on that I haven’t even started, and it’s sad to say as I am a huge lover of motion pictures. At least by waiting this long I get to enjoy it in 1080p Blu-ray. And that’s always some comfort.

After I finish Vampire Diaries, there are several other shows I need to catch up on. True Blood, Walking Dead, Burn Notice, Game of Thrones, yeah, the list goes on forever and and ever. How will I ever have a life? I don’t know. One of my new rules will be to never let yourself get this behind again. 😛

Time to go back to show!

There’s plenty of beauty in The Vampire Diaries.

Dark Shadows

October 16, 2012

I never got the chance to see Dark Shadows in the theater. Well, I had the chance, but I just never got around to it. There were other priorities and better movies to see and now that it’s out on Blu-ray disc I snapped it up to enjoy in HD in my own couch.

Johnny Depp plays a vampire and does so very well. It’s not a horror movie by any means, in fact, it’s more to the comedy side with a tad drama on the side. There are some really funny jokes here and there and Depp plays his character enjoyably.

The movie itself isn’t that impressive by any means. The story is has been done in various forms before, and though it was interesting to see and it’s definitely worth seeing, it’s not spectacular. Expect a few laughs here and there but that’s about it. I wasn’t really super-intrigued or glued to the movie but I did want to see how it would end, even though it was predictable, at least to me.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D

July 30, 2012

I just saw Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray in 3D. And I didn’t even see it in the theaters, I know, kind of late, but at least this way I got to enjoy it in glorious 1080p and 3D at the convenience of my own couch and the pause button.

I’ve been bashing some recent superhero movies such as The Avengers about being too cliché and predictable with ridiculous morals where invasion don’t kill any civilians. Well, Transformers 3 does not follow that pattern at all. This movie is an all-out war and the Decepticons are to rule. Unlike Loki’s pathetic New York invasion, where not a single civilian died, Megatron managed to kill thousands upon thousands in Chicago and wrecked absolute havoc. It was beautiful to see and made me happy. Finally a movie that depicts war in a realistic way.

Michael Bay did a good job with the movie I’d say. It was beautiful to watch in Blu-ray and the 3D didn’t feel forced as there were a lot of explosions and details that came to life much better in 3D than 2D in my opinion, especially the Autobots. It was very easy on the eye. Some people miss Megan Fox, I don’t. The replacement was far hotter and I don’t even remember how Megan Fox looks like anymore. That’s how good of a replacement they found. Trust me.

Overall the movie followed a somewhat traditional pattern of these movies with tons of action mixed in with humor and love. It seems to be the socially accepted way to go now and it does feel a little dull but it works, I guess. However, the massacre in Chicago does strengthen the movie significantly as I expected it to be like the Avengers with zero casualties. If you are looking for laughter, excitement, action and tons of explosions and value for your money (over 2 hours and 30 minutes long) this is the flick to go. Especially if you liked any of the previous movies.

Snow White and The Huntsman

June 24, 2012

I long had the idea to make a mature themed version of the Disney classics such as Snow White and whatnot. And finally the guys over at Hollywood got the same idea and delivered something different from than what I would, but nevertheless I decided to see it.

The choice of Kristen Stewart was a surprise to me. I mean, she is possibly the worst actress out there with zero emotions in her face. Why give her such a big role? I don’t know. Why not give it to talented Keira Knightley or Natalie Portman? Well, I can say that that decision hurt the movies overall score as it removed a lot of emotions and immersion.

The story was relatively good. I mean, I wanted to see how it ended and what would happen, and some scenes were good, particularly the one when the dwarfs came. And it had potential a lot of times but it just somehow kept missing that potential for various reason and I never truly fell in love with the movie. Sure, Kristen is beautiful and so was the Witch. And the Huntsman. Yes, it was a beautiful cast indeed. But that didn’t save the movie from mediocrity in terms of Kristen’s acting and how emotionless she made the entire film feel.

I was expecting more. I was expecting a deeper story and something that would wow me. But it never came. But it wasn’t a bad flick under any circumstances, but i just wasn’t any that special in my eyes. I guess this is one of the flicks you just have to see for yourself to call.

Sexiest Witch ever?

Project X

June 3, 2012

I have to admit the trailer was good. It was enough to sell me. I am sucker for good trailers, I confess. You show me some hot chicks and a party and I will most likely see the flick. So, Project X sold me you could say. It was suppose to be the ultimate party, after all. But was it?

Project X is the most awesome high school party movie that I have seen.  That party definitely was sicker than any other party I have seen and was indeed something that I wished I had attended. Hot naked girls everywhere, drinks, e, and well, everything you could imagine. Every guy’s dream party for sure.

If you are looking for a movie that will show some naked breasts, a lot of teenagers drinking, crazy party moments, and just a really good time, then definitely this movies for you. It doesn’t have a story nor depth but that isn’t the point either, so it’s really difficult to rate this movie. The Blu-ray didn’t really offer much in terms of picture quality – but it was OK. Definitely better than DVD (duh) and the extended edition was the first edition I saw so I can’t comment on whether the extra material made it better or worse.

I definitely recommend this flick to all the guys out there, and probably some girls will like it as well. Hands-down the ultimate party movie out there. It was one crazy ride from beginning to end. Will there be a Project X 2? That is the question.

Blu-ray picture: OK

Hot teenage girls in bikinis are a good way to promote a movie.
