The Watch

November 26, 2012

The Watch, a new comedy with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn and two other rather famous comedy actors as well. I don’t really remember their names, but you’ll know them once you see the picture in the bottom. So was it good?

The Watch is a neighborhood watch in a little suburb in Ohio and a mysterious murder causes a few citizens to worry and create the Watch. From there they go on various crazy adventures and discover something out of this world. During their journey you’ll be introduced to various crazy scenarios and laughters and it’s a solid comedy flick by any means. Not a great or fantastic one, but it’s good for some laughs and it has its moments for sure.

I would say that it’s one of the better flicks of Ben Stiller and considering how many he’s done that’s not too shabby. Since it’s Fall, closing in on Winter, movie/TV season has begun and this one is a suitable flick for a dark day when you need to smile.

The Campaign

November 22, 2012

I had zero expectations for this movie. I knew already from the trailer that most of the best/funniest parts were shown in the trailer. So I never rushed myself to see it in theaters. In fact, I even missed out on the Blu-ray release until a friend told me about it and said it was great.

In timely fashion, The Campaign was released to coincide with the U.S. elections and it takes a comedic route to it. Will Ferrell and that “Wolf” guy from The Hangover are in it, and Ferrell is usually funny and delivers on his part. Unfortunately, the movie itself is rather weak and I can only recalling myself laughing around two times as I saw the other fun part during the trailer preview. It had a few moments perhaps, but it wasn’t nearly enough. For an instance, the Zohan movie made me laugh millions of times.

With only one or two truly hilarious moments, perhaps an additional one if you didn’t see the trailer, I just cannot recommend this flick. It just didn’t do it for me. But then again, comedy is so subjective that you might want to give it a try regardless.

I wouldn’t elect this movie as the movie of the year. Not by a long shot.

Friends Blu-ray

November 21, 2012

Finally! I have in my possession the entire collection of the TV show Friends on Blu-ray disc so that I can enjoy it in glorious HD.

I’ve waited this for quite some time as I am in desperate need of a new “background TV show”, you know, a show that’s on in the background while doing things and when there’s nothing else to do. Seinfeld has long filled that slot with its great seasons but it has come to a point where every episode has been seen more than three times and I just can’t stand it anymore.

Can’t wait to enjoy it in HD for the first time ever.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas

November 2, 2012

The third movie in the Harold & Kumar series never came out in my country, so I actually missed it until I was told about it from my friends. Now, it’s in my possession as I loved the previous two ones. Does the third one follow the insane humor of the last two?

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas the focus very much lies on Christmas. And as in traditional Harold and Kumar fashion, things don’t go as planned and they’re off to a new adventure with crazy events unfolding and tons of comedic scenes.

Though I feel that this one wasn’t quite as funny as the first two ones, it still was funny and worth seeing if you liked the previous ones. It might be “too extreme” or “too juvenile” for some people, but I think it has its charm. It’s nothing pow-wow or masterfully crafted art or anything, it’s just plain sillyness and randomess. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

From the creators of Family Guy comes a special movie about a Teddy Bear that comes to life. And Mark Wahlberg is in it along with Mila Kunis. Need I to say more? I just had to see it.

Ted is an R rated comedy movie with Family Guy humor and Marky Mark. The bear, Ted, is a great character and I am sure he will become huge and sell thousands toys and do spin-offs. If you are looking for a raw comedy movie with constant laughter and wicked humor that we all have come to love in Family Guy, you will love Ted. It is one of the funniest movies I have seen.

Mila Kunis plays her roll excellently and is in fact the human star in this role, no disrespect for Marky Mark though, he is great as always, but Mila Kunis spoke to me more in this motion picture.  With top actors, top comedy, and top scenes, you can’t go wrong with Ted. Make it your number one priority if you like to laugh.

I don’t know how I found this flick, but I am glad I did. The moment I saw that Sean-William Scott was in it, I knew I had to see it.

Goon is a hockey movie with a wicked sense of humor primarily aimed at the male audience. Cursing, sex, sports, blood, fighting, yup, that’s all you’ll see in the Goon and it is a good time for sure.

It’s about a man that has a special talent for fighting. A hockey coach spots him and sends him the small city of Nova Scotia to play for their local team as their Goon. That’s all I’ll say though. It might not sound like the best story ever, but it sure as hell is a fun ride.

If you are looking for a different kind of sports movie unlike all others and for a good laugh (assuming you are a guy) then you should look no more. This is the movie for you. Could females enjoy it? Absolutely, but I don’t think they’ll enjoy it nearly as much as the guys.

The Clone Wars

May 26, 2012

Just wrapped out the fourth and last available season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the ending was a real cliffhanger.

With the upcoming fifth season we’ll get to continue the SPOILER: the return of Darth Maul and his brother as they seek to avenge their defeats against the Jedi’s in a quest to rule to galaxy. A bit cheesy, perhaps, but so awesome if you are a Star Wars fan.

I’m hoping that Darth Maul will offer some nice fights and duels for many episodes and not just a few.

One of my new recent favorite TV shows is none other than Good Christian Bitches or as it is called now, GCB.

I like to think of it as Desperate Housewives in Dallas, Texas with a funny Christian twist to it and a lot of women that I simply adore.

If you like Desperate Housewives and are looking for a show with comedy and excitement, then you should definitely check this show out, even though it’s primarily for the female audience. Unfortunately the show isn’t doing too well in critics eyes and it came on as a mid-season show to cover for some other and that’s sad. I’d love to have seen a full season of 24 episodes and at least two to three more seasons of it.

One of the funniest characters in GCB and one of the best actresses.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

April 30, 2012

The second movie in the new Sherlock Holmes series with Mr. Downey Jr and Jude Law as the leads is here. Does it hold the same high standards as the first one or does it fall flat?

The first movie became popular because of its fantastic humor and nice Holmes commentary about fighting and attention to details that made us all embarrassed for not seeing them ourselves. Fortunately, A Game of Shadows follows the same brilliant pattern and continues the tradition in every way possible.

Once again Downey Jr. and Law are hilarious together and a perfect match. Guy Ritchie continues his domination streak with A Games of Shadow and if you even remotely liked the previous one – you’ll love this one equally. It has everything you’d want from a Sherlock Holmes movie and great memorable scenes.

Iron Sky

April 19, 2012

Space Nazis. No, I am not kidding. That is the punchline and story of Iron Sky. And it was enough to hook me immediately.

After I saw the trailer I just knew that this movie was something for me. My fascination with WW2 after all, has no limits. Even if it stretches to ridiculous heights like some could argue that Iron Sky reaches. But that doesn’t matter to me. I still had to see it.

The story is like I mentioned earlier, the nazis return and they have been building a secret base on the moon and want to conquer the world again and get rid of all subhumans. We have some nice action and some comedy. The movie doesn’t try to take itself serious and that’s all good and makes it even better.

If you are looking for a movie unlike no other, then Iron Sky is definitely for you. I mean space nazis, how can you go wrong with that? Innovation station, right?

Rating: Hilarious!

Due to the fact that Iron Sky does not take itself serious or tries to be serious, it’s impossible to rate it on a classical scale as it’d be unfair to other movies. The movie is hilarious through and through and warmly recommended.
