Top 5 for 2014

October 12, 2013

Some of my readers have been asking me what my most anticipated games for 2014 are, so I thought I’d share it with y’all.

5. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Kiefer Sutherland. Next generation hardware. Solid Snake. Open world. Tactical espionage. I mean, come on. How can one not be excited for this? All the MGS have been masterful.

4. The Evil Within
Shinji Mikami, the father of horror returns for his next generation debut and it is looking beyond scary. I am certain I will get an heart attack from this game and that my hands will be dripping sweat.

3. Titanfall
Titanfall looks to be the best shooter in… forever? I can’t foresee any other shooters other than maybe Battlefront being anywhere close to rivaling Titanfall. Forget Call of Duty and Battlefield, a new king will emerge.

2. Thief
The new trailers look so amazing. The gameplay looks amazing. The slogan is amazing. Everything about Thief looks amazing and they just keep putting out these amazing trailers and my hype keeps rising.

1. Destiny
Destiny remains unrivaled at first place. It is looking like game changer and that’s a huge deal. I am certain I will easily invest 500-1000 hours depending on the support Bungie gives this game. I cannot wait.

What are your top 5 for 2014?

What’s yours is mine.

Changing some routines for next generation

October 10, 2013

For the upcoming generation I will shift around my gaming habits and routines dramatically. Why? Because I want to. I feel it’s time to do some adjustments and prioritizing and that’s always fun.

The first change, which perhaps is the biggest one, has multiple purposes, both environmental and convenience. I’ll be switching from disc based games to digital games. This has, like I said earlier, numerous reasons behind it. Though I do like to have a physical disc and box from time to time, I also don’t like it. Going fully digital is better for the environment. It saves me time and energy of going to the store or waiting for the mail to arrive. It removes disc swapping when I want to change games. It’s a natural evolution as I have been enjoying digital media such as movies and TV shows for over a decade now exclusively.

Second is that 99% of games that are out on the PC and next generation platforms will likely be purchased for the PC. PC gaming isn’t only cheaper, it’s more beautiful and smoother in performance. Some games I’ll still get for the console as they feel like console games, such as The Evil Within, that game is meant for the 46″ big screen instead of the 21″ computer screen. Of course there will be more of those types of games. But in general, I’ll prioritize games such as Destiny for my next generation machine to maximize the efficiency of it. It just feels more logical since I have a beast computer. Games like Thief look significantly better on the PC and that’s something I want to take advantage of, whilst Destiny won’t even be out on the PC, so this to me, makes complete sense.

Third and final is that I won’t be buying games that look “Okay” or “just good” anymore. I have had too many experiences that were mediocre or okay on my Xbox 360 that I don’t ever want again. Games like Ninja Gaiden 2, Crackdown 2, Ninja Blade, Tekken 6 and several others. These games scored around 7 or low 8 on average and I think they are even lower than that. During my play-trough of Ninja Gaiden 2 I just rushed the last three levels entirely without killing anyone because I was falling asleep of the repetitive grinding mechanics and shit story. I bought it because of the dismemberment and gore, but ultimately, it wasn’t worth it. If a game isn’t looking to fantastic with depth and an immersible enviornment, I am no longer interested. Take Destiny as an example, that game looks like a clear 10/10 with a world that I want to live in. These are the types of games that will be in my focus. Not 6-7:s. I don’t care if I miss out on a few “good” or “decent” games in the run, because I know I will get all the masterpieces and those are the ones that count.

The gore was the only good part about Ninja Gaiden 2. No more mediocre games for me.

Visit the moon in Destiny

October 1, 2013

Destiny is by far my most anticipated game for the next generation consoles and Bungie recently confirmed that if you pre-order you will get beta access early 2014. The game is slated for a Spring 2014 release.

My most anticipated games

September 19, 2013

As you might know, I’ll be getting the PlayStation 4 console exclusively for my living room entertainment. I have owned at least one console each generation since I was born and I don’t plan on leaving the console gaming scene any time soon. Although I am changing my policies around.

This generation I will only buy console exclusives for my PS4. Games that will be available for the PC as well will always be bought for the PC. Naturally I will pick up PS4 exclusives as well.

So what are some of my most anticipated games for the next generation?

Deep Down (PS4 exclusive)
This looks to be Capcom’s answer to the insanely successful Dark Souls/Demons Souls franchise and it is looking very, very impressive so far. I kind of get the vibe of Dark Souls / Assassin’s Creed touch with the story and that’s very interesting. Add to this that this is an exclusive title only found on the PS4, and well, I am hooked. I can’t wait to start exploring dungeons and adventures as a knight in glorious next generation graphics.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Console exclusive)
The fifth installment in the highly masterful Metal Gear Solid series can’t come soon enough. I remember picking up “the first one” for PlayStation One as a little kid and enjoying it more than anything I’ve enjoyed in life at that time. It was magical and the fifth installment will make it a bit more special now that I am back on the PlayStation team. The game itself looks better than all the previous installments with realistic graphics, an enormous open world to explore and Kiefer Sutherland voicing Solid Snake. Day one purchase and I’ll even pick up the Collector’s Edition should there be one.

The Order 1886 (PS4 exclusive)
I love the olden days. 1886 seems like a very appealing year for me but with a twist in The Order. Although we’ve only seen a vague trailer revealing the setting and story, I was hooked immediately. Set in London makes it even better as there are too few games that take place in that fascinating city.

Destiny (Console exclusive, PS4 exclusive content)
Destiny looks to be a game changer. It’s basically an MMO FPS with gorgeous visuals, deep gameplay and customization like never before. It’s an open living world that changes constantly and reacts to you. It will be an absolutely magical adventure with all my friends. Expect me to disappear from reality once this game comes out. I am sure it will forever change how we play games.

Final Fantasy XV (Console exclusive)
The upcoming Final Fantasy game looks fresh, fast and severely more adapted for the western gamer than any other in the series. I love this. With excellent animations, in fact, better than any other I have ever seen in my life, and superb voice acting and a deep story, Final Fatansy XV is a must have for me.

The Division
The first gameplay video we saw of The Division blew my mind away. The amount of detail and realism in portraying New York CIty was without a doubt the best one I’ve seen to date. Add to this that it’s a cooperatively focused shooter with online focus, and I am drooling. Expect me to take my crew out for adventures frequently.

EA Sports UFC (Console exclusive)
I love MMA. It’s my favorite sport. Although we’ve only seen alpha gameplay from this game, I can say I will love it. I loved their first MMA game without any of the UFC licenses and now with a new modern next generation engine and the UFC license, it can’t go wrong. This is my most anticipated fighting game.

Titanfall looks to be a fast-paced shooter unlike any other. With unique concepts and methods. Since it’s coming out for the PC, I’ll be getting it for that. Also, it has won basically every single award from every single convention it has showed up on. I mean, can every single journalist in the world be wrong? I doubt it.

Star Wars: Battlefront
A FPS Star Wars game created by DICE running on Frostbite Engine 3. I mean, do I even have to say another word to sell it? I didn’t think so.

The Evil Within
The Father of Horror returns with his new original IP and I am sold. Investigating mental institutions is something that sounds like an incredibly smart idea and I can’t foresee anything going wrong. Or scary happening. Or am I out on thin ice here? Either way, I am sure this will be the scariest game I have ever played in my life.

Runner-ups: Star Wars: Visceral Games Project, Mirrors Edge 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age 3, Dying Light

I’ve got a gut feeling that Destiny will change how I perceive games and that I will spend more time with it than any other console game ever.

PlayStation 4 Summary

February 21, 2013

Here’s my summary of what was revealed last night during the PlayStation 4event:

  • PlayStation 4 officially confirmed with powerful GPU, 8 GB ram, and multiple-core processor.
  • PlayStation 4 controller officially revealed with share functions, touch pad, more polished design, new response technology, color coding at back as well. Stunning. Really stunning. (Pic at bottom)
  • Stream and social focus: Stream to your friends LIVE what you play and they can watch and chat with you from their iPhones, iPads, PS4s, or computers thanks to Ustream and PS Network. AMAZING I have waited ten years for a feature like this. Most impressive.
  • Turn off your console – resume your game instantly when turning it on: thanks to the 8 GB ram, Sony can now save your games right where you left them when your turn the console back on. Instantly.
  • Buy digital games and play instantly: now when you buy digital games through PS4 you can begin to play them immediately. No more waiting for hours. Very, very nice.

Of course, gaming consoles are primarily about games and we got plenty. Killzone: Shadow Fall which look very hot. Destiny from Bungie with exclusive PS4 content which to me is a major deal as that game looks fantastic and I want it right now >.<. Diablo III, but who cares about that garbage anyway? Worth mentioning though as this partnership is massive and will mean hundreds of thousands of sales for Sony extra. Also a new Infamous game was shown while Square Enix promised a new Final Fantasy at E3 this year for PS4. Watch Dogs will be out on the PS4 on day one. But I don’t trust Ubisoft, especially not with launch titles so that’s a no go for me.

I am mighty impressed by the PS4, I never thought I’d be this impressed. I thought my next choice would be as crystal clear as the previous two: Xbox and Xbox 360. But now I must say that Microsoft are in the behind with being the latter to announce the console. Now they have to severely impress me, more so than Sony did. Can they? It remains to be seen. I owe them that opportunity at least. But the streaming and sharing features is what made the PS4 irresistible to me. My friends can watch me play FIFA 15 on their iPhone while on the train and I am sitting comfortably in my couch. Awesome? I think so.

The actual design of the console was not shown and the price not released. The PlayStation 4 will available Holiday 2013 is what they said.

The final PS4 controller and it’s an improved beauty for sure.

Controller again. A stunning beauty.

Apps will be available for the PS4. Netflix, NHL etc – FUARK YES!
