Best Shooter Ever

August 12, 2011

I frequently get asked which shooter I consider to be the best there is. My answer is always the same, Counter-Strike. To this date this game remains unrivaled in terms of quality, skill, and polish. It became so big and such a phenomenon that no one could have seen it coming. Oh yeah, it also became an electronic sport with tournaments holding cash prizes of over $50,000 for the winners.

Many people think they’ve played Counter-Strike,when in fact, they haven’t. Let me tell you one thing: Counter-Strike is a competitive esport game. That means if you only played it on public servers with one or two friends at times, and never competed in official tournaments, you haven’t played the game. It’s really as simple as that. The game sucks in public. It requires no nothing, it’s a mess. But when played with official tournament rules on official tournament maps, with teams 5 on 5 and 30,000 spectators, then that’s an entirely different game.

I actually played a match with the best players in the world from SK. There were over 10,000 spectators during that match and my heart was beating like never before. It was exciting. The anxiety, the need to perform before these spectators was unreal. It was just as if I was playing soccer in a big stadium like Old Trafford. Oh, those were highly memorable days.

It is because of these reasons that Counter-Strike 2 is my most wanted announcement. No other announcement would make me happier. Especially considering Valve would most likely make it a more esport focused title with official in-game tournament systems and rankings. It’s been over a decade and not a single word has even leaked about CS2. But hey, let’s hope. I mean, that’s all we can do unless we work at Valve, right?

Counter-Strike 1.6 – I won cash money, mousepads, mp3-players, accessories, t-shirts and more playing it.
