Soma

October 13, 2013

Soma is a new promising sci-fi horror game from the creators of Amnesia. It will be out for the PC and PlayStation 4, sorry Xbox One, in 2015.

Check out the trailer below. I liked it. It has potential to deliver some serious thinking and a deep story. Here’s hoping it delivers and doesn’t fall short. Another interesting thing is that Xbox One is already being excluded from games. Doom is near?

Star Trek: Into Darkness 3D

May 14, 2013

I have seen the first movie. I have read the entire prequel comic book series. I am officially ready to go into darkness. Did this insanely anticipated movie live up to all the hype after all these years?

I’m going to cut right to the chase. Star Trek: Into Darkness is a masterpiece through and through. Everything about this movie radiated excellence and it was artistically perfect. The special effects were world class, the story was entangling, engaging and interesting and it brought into itself one of the most interesting characters ever. It had hilarious jokes. Excellent battles. Epic space travel. It had sadness that brought tears to my eyes, yes this movie had indeed everything.

JJ Abrams did an amazing job with this motion picture. He really did. It delivered and exceeded my expectations greatly and I hope to see him doing several more Star Trek flicks. But perhaps not make me wait another five years please? I’d like to see it bi-annually. And I hope that if he doensn’t do it, the other person will follow suit in the same mature yet fun direction that I am sure has opened up Star Trek to non-Star Trekers. The 3D effects were quite subtle but they did add to the overall effect at certain parts and I even blinked with my eye in one scene as it felt the object was heading to pierce my left eye ball, which makes me more than satisfied with the 3D overall.

If you are looking for this years thus far best motion picture, look no further. This is it. This is an epic space adventure that I recommend highly. I will re-watch it countless times and I have a really difficult time seeing me praising any other movie coming out this year as much as this one. It looks like the strongest candidate to movie of the year for sure.

Masterful

Hot chicks in Star Trek? You bet.

Disney’s Star Wars plans

April 18, 2013

Disney has revealed their plans for their Star Wars movies and it is looking fantastic from a fans perspective. We will be getting a new movie annually. Fuark yes.

  • There will be a new trilogy starting with Episode VII and that debut’s Disney’s movies in 2015 with Episode VIII coming in 2017 and Episode IX 2019.
  • For 2016 there will be a spin-off movie and they will alternate bi-annually with the new trilogy.
  • Han Solo spin-off considered, a young Han Solo with amazing escapes and battles with smuggling and whatnot.
  • Yoda spin-off, not much details about when or how.

So that’s some pretty juicy information and if the movies are well-made, I have no problems with an annual release of Star Wars movies, in fact, I welcome it. I mean, they can’t be worse than the prequel trilogy, right?

I’d love to see the Return of the Sith and that they scratch the Rule of Two, but that’s just me. I love the Sith.

LucasArts gets shut down

April 5, 2013

Disney who bought Star Wars and LucasArts and all related things has now decided to shut down LucasArts and cancel all their projects, among them were Star Wars 1313. This has caused some shockingly negative response from gamers. Is this justified?

If we take a look at what Disney does good it’s making money. They are releasing quality animated movies again and basically run the world. They have smart people there. No doubt. LucasArts on the other hand, what have they done in the past year? Not much. In fact, they have released a few mediocre games at best. The last good product to come out of LucasArts was in 2008, that’s five years ago.

Star Wars 1313 did look very promising. It did. I am not even going to lie. But since Disney shut that down it must have meant it wasn’t nearly as finished as LucasArts claimed it was. They know how to run their company and it was clearly the right decision to make. Keep a company that wasn’t smart enough to fully capitalize on the  Star Wars brand must mean one thing: they’re dumb.

So I understand the decision to shut them down. Regardless of how much I looked forward to Star Wars 1313. It makes sense from a financial point of view. Hopefully Disney will now turn it around and release quality Star Wars games more frequently than Lucas did.

1313 was one of the two games that will not be released now. TWO games only. Relax, people.

Most anticipated movie?

April 4, 2013

I often get asked what my most anticipated movies is, and that’s a tough question.

Right now, I’d say that, overall, my most anticipated movie is Star Wars: Episode VII. There’s no other universe that has fascinated me as much and I cannot wait to see them revive it and hopefully make it much better. But that’s not until like 2014 or maybe even later.

For this year? Even tougher to determine. But it’s probably Star Trek: Into Darkness. Yeah, it’s no secret that sci-fi fascinates me. 😛 But I am also very much looking forward to Man of Steel and Pain & Gain. This year will be phenomenal in terms of movies coming out and that’s always pleasant to know.

How about you my readers? What are your most anticipated motion pictures?

I am even reading the prequel comic book series to build up the movie.

Disney buys Lucasfilm/arts

October 31, 2012

Disney has bought all the rights for Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchise and have massive plans for Star Wars. Already in 2015 we will be getting the much anticipated Star Wars: Episode 7, something that I have waited for over a decade.  And the plan is to release a new Star Wars flick bi-annually.

I couldn’t be happier with this news as I am a huge Star Wars fan, as you probably noticed. And George Lucas really fucked the original trilogy good and has been on a consistent downturn with the franchise for decades. With the great job Disney has done with Marvel I am sure that Star Wars will be much better off this way instead of the hands of an egoistic maniac that was Lucas.

I hope to see that the upcoming movies follow the lore and storyline of the books as there are many of them and that they are filled with expensive effects and cool gadgets. The budget has never been bigger and I have insane expectations. Probably too high, but I don’t care, I am hyyyyyped! This is my favorite franchise after all.

What are your thoughts and expectations on this?

Total Recall

August 17, 2012

Total Recall, an amazing classical action sci-fi movie that I grew up with. Naturally I wanted to see the remake of it with Colin Farrell as he’s a guy I like and want to support.

In the remake we travel a slightly different path from the original in terms of setting and story. Overall the picture is the same but the story is different but similar in its own way. It’s a very interesting take and though I like both, I must admit that the remake offers a much more exciting world and universe that engaged me far more than first movie did. Not to take anything away from Arnold or so, but technology really helped this movie to come out as the stronger one and that world they created was magnificent and beautiful – I disappeared in it.

Total Recall offers action and sci-fi in a perfect way along with some humor thrown in there that has come to become the classical pattern now. And it does it well. Like I said, this movie is executed brilliantly and the actors are amazing and do their jobs flawlessly.

Is it real? Or is it recall?

Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy

July 4, 2012

I just finished reading the last part of the Thrawn trilogy, The Last Command and I am left wanting more. A truly fantastic trilogy continuing the Star Wars story after episode six and I am already beginning the next trilogy continuing after this one. Star Wars: Scourge will have to wait.

Thrawn is a brilliant character and the story is always engaging and interesting. It is written in classical Star Wars style where there are usually two or more battles going with a lot of exciting moments and scenarios that keep you guess what will happen next and some brilliant tie-ins at the end that left me warm at heart.

I cannot recommend this trilogy enough. It is that good and I am very happy to have had to honor of reading it. If you are a sci-fi fan or a Star Wars supporter like me, this is definitely something that you absolutely must check out.

Prometheus

June 4, 2012

My expectations were beyond real. I had expected movie of the year. A deep surreal story beyond comprehension and amazing atmosphere and fantastic acting and great characters that are memorable and meaningful. Unfortunately, my expectations were way too high.

Prometheus is a space shuttle going to find out some fascinating things about the creator of mankind. Clues from previous civilizations have been unraveled and some doctors and scientists are sent to a new planet to find out the ultimate truth. It sounds amazing right? Beyond belief, and it had the potential to be the greatest movie ever made. They could have thrown in so much depth and amazing characters and built a new franchise but instead it falls short on every level and delivers forgettable characters and no answers to the millions of questions it raises. Very, very unfortunate.

The atmosphere of the movie was superb until they actually landed on the new planet. The concept was amazing. One character in particular was fascinating, but then it just sort of stopped. It became dumb and the life of the characters was sucked away. We had one geologist that smoked inside his space suit and thought he was cool, a very boring and idiotic character that was not believable to be one of 17 people to discover new life in space. And then the overall life of the characters was just dull. Their reactions in the movie were dumb and some characters that were there a lot didn’t have a purpose or meaning and I was asking myself why are they even there? There was no character development at all.

Since this was a Ridley Scott I expected all those issues to be non-existent instead of being dominant. I didn’t get immersed at all in the end when the movie was suppose to be at its climax, instead I was only immersed in the beginning before the waves of disappointment start to coming over and over again. It saddens me to say it, but I really believed in this flick.

One of the dumbest decisions in the movie was to bring in this character.

The Clone Wars

May 26, 2012

Just wrapped out the fourth and last available season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the ending was a real cliffhanger.

With the upcoming fifth season we’ll get to continue the SPOILER: the return of Darth Maul and his brother as they seek to avenge their defeats against the Jedi’s in a quest to rule to galaxy. A bit cheesy, perhaps, but so awesome if you are a Star Wars fan.

I’m hoping that Darth Maul will offer some nice fights and duels for many episodes and not just a few.
